I’ve been using marketing prompts from KA Studios and one of the prompts was to write about your most embarrassing moment as a north Utah photographer. Hmm. I literally could not think of anything… until this happened! I’m grateful that the first thought that popped into my head after this was, “well now I have a most embarrassing story to write” haha. There’s silver lining in everything right?
So there I was driving down through Salt Lake to get to Cory and Danielle’s house for a newborn session with their cute new baby girl. I was using my phone to navigate and I had checked which exit I needed to get off right before I left, just in case. I was getting closer and closer to the exit I remembered I needed to take, but I wasn’t hearing any directions. So I pulled off the exit anyway and realized that for some reason my phone had stopped navigating. Danielle had texted me their address, so I told Siri, “take me to Danielle’s house”.
The navigation started again and I started driving along a road heading back north. I thought, “Hmm, that’s weird. I wonder why I didn’t take an earlier exit.” I just figured that I had remembered the exit number wrong and had gone too far south. Before I left, I was going to be about 15 minutes early. But now it was looking like I would be barely on time, which I figured was from going too far south. Good thing I left early!
Right around the time I needed to be there, I pulled onto a road with apartment complexes on it. You guys, this is how oblivious I was being, I thought, “Wow, that’s weird that you have to drive through this apartment complex to get to their house.” And that’s when Siri said, “You’ve arrived!”
What? I knew Cory and Danielle had just moved to a house, so something was up. Then it hit me. For some reason, I had Danielle’s old address in my phone. I have absolutely no idea why I had their old address. I looked at my contacts and sure enough, I was in the wrong place. I went to my texts and had Siri pull up the route to their actual address. I saw that I really had taken the right exit and was basically a mile from their house before I started my backtracking adventure.
Oh goodness. So embarrassed, I called Danielle and explained what had happened. Then drove a half hour on the roads I had just driven on to get back to their actual house. ???? I’m so glad Cory and Danielle are saints and were so sweet about it.
To me, an Idaho girl, “Salt Lake” was anything from Ogden to Provo in my mind growing up. Obviously I’m still learning the territory. Good thing my husband is the pilot, and not me, or your flight to L.A. might end up in Chicago. ????
